With some very simple habits you can avoid the formation of hairballs.
Your cat spends many hours grooming themselves and to do so they lick their coat, which means that they swallow any loose hairs. Although it doesn’t have to be a problem, there are times when the hairs accumulate in your cat’s stomach, forming hairballs.
If you notice that your cat is gagging but not managing to expel hairballs, and that they are also lacking appetite and exhibiting changes in behaviour, have them checked out by your trusted vet.
However, some very simple habits can help your cat to avoid hairballs:
Proper brushing will help to get rid of loose hairs and therefore to reduce the amount of hair that your cat ingests when grooming themselves. Ensure that you use the right brush to brush your cat.
Use a rubber brush
A metal brush with longer bristles will be more appropriate
Pick up the dead hair by brushing in the opposite direction to hair growth, which is to say, from the tail towards the head. Continue following the direction of hair growth from the head towards the tail.
